ENGAGED PARENTS = SUCCESSFUL STUDENTSThe Learning Collaborative recognizes that engaged parents raise successful students. Through Family School Readiness, TLC merges concern for the child with concern for the family. We combine classes on self- sufficiency skills with classes on school readiness. In place of paying tuition, TLC parents must volunteer a minimum of seven hours each month per enrolled child. These volunteer hours are often spent assisting in the classroom, lending library, office, or anywhere as needed. Being at the preschool allows the teachers and staff to model behaviors that increase learning potential. We coach parents through parent-teacher conferences, guiding them through the partnership that should exist between a parent and the child’s teacher.
Through collaborations with Charlotte programs such as Parent University, Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools, Triple P, Atrium, Novant Health, Red Cross, Southeast Pysch, Read Charlotte, and others TLC can offer a variety of parenting and life-skills classes. By participating in TLC’s Family Support & Involvement, parents become active participants in the school and are stronger first teachers to their children. |
