The families in The Learning Collaborative must be a good fit with our mission. For this reason, a targeted approach is used in selecting families. Priority is placed on undeserved children from fragile, low income families. TLC screens all potential families using the More at Four application guidelines for income eligibility and service priority status as the program seeks to enroll those who demonstrate the greatest need: low income, no high school or GED achieved by parents, substandard housing, inadequate transportation, and children with potential developmental delays. Personal interviews are also an important part of the application process.
To be eligible for the More at Four program, children must:
- Be four years old by August 31st and be eligible for kindergarten the following year.
- Be a resident of Mecklenburg County
- Meet the income requirements as set by the state of North Carolina. Children of active duty military families are also eligible.
